Cumbernauld Colts   1  v  2  Lothian Thistle HV

SLFL U20 Development League
Friday 4th September 2015 KO 7.45pm
Broadwood Stadium

The young Colts started their inaugural league campaign at this level against the highly regarded Lothian Thistle, who are the side associated with the highly successful Hutcheson Vale.

The game kicked off with little between the teams with both sides trying hard to pass the ball. With some half chances created by both, the Colts took the lead on the half hour marked when Mikey McGaraghan rose highest at a well worked corner to powerfully head the ball into the net.

However to their credit, Lothian Thistle continued to move the ball well and and tested keeper Giles with a powerful shot which saw the keeper dive high to his left to tip the ball over the bar. However moments later the keeper could do nothing when Lothian Thistle deservedly equalised after a well worked move.

Half time 1-1

The second have started where the first half had ended, with both teams having some good passages of play and moving the ball around well. The young Colts however seemed to tire and despite a couple of substitutions they were unable to lift their game up to the levels of their opening few fixtures.

With about 78 minutes gone some slackness in the Colts midfield let the Lothian midfielder slip a lovely pass through the middle of the Colts rear guard and the striker finished well to make the score 2-1.

There were further chances for both sides before the end but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing saw the score remaining the same.

Full Time 1-2

Although a disappointing result for the Colts, a good quality game of football was applauded by the spectators in the stands. The young Colts looked a bit tired throughout and didn't play with the spark they have shown in their early games. However they continue to compete well as they adjust to this level of competition.
