Cumbernauld Colts   8  v  4  Lothian Thistle HV

This week’s u20’s fixture saw Cumbernauld Colts host Lothian Thistle in an enthralling encounter under the lights at Broadwood Stadium.

The match got off to a very fast start with Colts going 1-0 up after just 50 seconds, as Sean Brown got on the end of a good through ball by Alex Foy to slot the ball into the net.

The visitors didn't have to wait long for an equaliser when after 8 minutes the score was level at 1-1 after Thistle striker Woods tapped in a cross from the right hand side. And they managed to find another goal just after 15 minutes when midfielder Fox stuck the ball from 30 yards into the top corner of the Colts net.

Colts though did not let this affect their game and continued to press in search of another goal. Midfielder Sheridan tried his luck from 25 yards but was denied by a good save from the goalkeeper and the resulting corner was headed in by Brown to claim his second of the match.

The home side then had a good opportunity to go back in front after the ball fell to the feet of Ryan Flanagan seven yards from goal but was denied by another good save from the goalkeeper. It wasn't long though before Colts were back in the lead, Sheridan once again striking from distance and blasted the ball into the net with an excellent strike from 25 yards.

Colts extended their lead just before the break as Sean Brown netted his hat-trick from a Jeff Fergus delivery.

Half Time 4-2

The second half began just as quickly as the first as Colts went 5-2 up through an in swinging Fraser Sheridan free kick that fooled everyone in the box to creep into the net at the far post. And it was 6-2 shortly after when Sean Brown took advantage of some nervous defending to slot the ball into the net through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Lothian Thistle then went up the other end of the pitch and had a good chance to score but Colts keeper Liam Running made a good save with his legs to deny the striker.

Colts then extended their goal tally to 7 through Connor McAteer whose efforts off the ball to regain possession was rewarded as he expertly found the top corner of the net. And it could have been goal number 8 shortly after but Brown was unable to beat the goalkeeper on this occasion.

The visitors however continued to look for goals and found their third through striker Taylor who despite appearing to be in an offside position was allowed to continue and finish well to narrow the score line. Thistle shortly after had their fourth goal of the game as Fox scored his second of the match with suspicions of offside present once more.

As the game was reaching a close, Colts managed to find another goal as Sheridan completed his own hat-trick after beating two Thistle defenders before drilling the ball across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.
