COLTS put the disappointment of last weeks defeat against Civil Service well and truly behind them with an impressive victory over East Stirlingshire.
Sean Browns double and a strike from Fraser Team ensured victory at Broadwood on Saturday for the Cumbernauld men who move up to third in the Lowland League table.
Ross Allum and Kris Faulds replied for the visitors, but Colts never looked in danger of anything less than a win in what was a mature performance for such a young side.
Allum had a great chance to open scoring for Shire after capitalising on a mistake in Colts defence but he blasted over the bar with Jordan Pettigrew rooted to the spot.
Colts looked a little nervous during the early exchanges, but they settled down after 7 minutes when a great move allowed Team to break on the right and play a low cross into the box for Brown who thumped the ball low past Barclay to break the deadlock.
Colts had a couple of great chances to extend their lead when both Team and Holmes were through one on one with Barclay, but they couldn't find a way past the experienced stopper.
However, the visitors looked dangerous when they got into the final third and in 23 minutes they drew level when some poor Colts defending presented Allum with space inside the six-yard box and the striker made no mistake firing low past Pettigrew.
Both teams looked capable of getting their noses in front before the break, but there was no further scoring in an entertaining first half.
Colts started the second period much brighter and they edged themselves back in front in 56 minutes when a long ball was knocked on by Brown to strike partner Team who raced onto the loose ball and calmly finished with a low shot past Barclay.
The hosts began to take control of the game and in 63 minutes they extended their lead when Holmes produced some great work bursting into the box and drilling a low shot which Barclay saved, but the ball broke to Brown who knocked the ball into the empty net.
And the Cumbernauld men should have further extended their lead in 70 minutes when Team raced clear of the Shire defence once again, but the strikers neat lob over Barclay landed on the roof of the net.
James Orr and Craig McKinlays men were in control for the remainder of the game, but in injury time Shire pulled a goal back when a free kick from Faulds eluded the entire Colts defence including Pettigrew, and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
But there was no time left on the clock for Shire to forge a way back into the game and Colts deserved to take all three points. The Cumbernauld men now look forward to hosting Lowland League reigning champions Spartans at Broadwood this coming Friday evening.
