Kelty Hearts   5  v  0  Cumbernauld Colts

It was a tough afternoon in Fife for the Colts as they were dispatched by five goals by a strong Kelty Hearts side.
The hosts started brightly with Dylan Easton testing Jonathan Grier from a set piece before Kallum Higginbotham fired just over.

After eight minutes though, Kelty did find the net.

This time it was captain Michael Tidser from the free-kick who’s strike went through the Colts’ wall and past Grier for the opener.

Colts nearly fought back through Lewis Bonar’s long range drive that flew just past the post.

Despite that, Kelty doubled their lead before the 20 minute mark as the ball broke to Jamie Stevenson and the full-back fired home a wicked volley leaving Grier with no chance.

After a couple of dangerous corners, the visitors nearly pulled one back but for a reaction save from Darren Jamieson, after Billy Mortimer’s flick.

Kelty really began to dominate the ball and that continued into the second period.

The referee then awarded the hosts a questionable penalty as Grier was adjudged to have floored Nathan Austin despite clearing taking the ball in the challenge.

Justice was done though as the Colts ‘keeper got down to deny the striker with an excellent stop.

After 70 minutes, Barry Ferguson’s side made sure of victory as Easton found the bottom corner from inside the area.

Hesitation at the back minutes later allowed Austin in to nick the ball past the on-rushing Grier to make it 4-0.

With the game well gone, the home side added a fifth late on as Easton got his second, netting a rebound off the post after a good save from Grier.

Colts struggled to create too many openings but battled well especially in the first 45 against a Kelty team with far bigger resources.

Despite Kelty’s domination, manager James Orr will perhaps be frustrated with the ease at which his defence was breached.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday night at Broadwood.
