Cumbernauld Colts   2  v  6  Spartans

An eight goal thriller at a soaking wet Broadwood saw a clinical Spartans side edge out the Colts.
The visitors grabbed the most prefect of starts in this one.

It began with Gregor Woods effort taking a wicked deflection off Cameron Dickson and sneaking
inside Jonathan Grier's near post inside the opening minute.

Spartans made it 2-0 after just four minutes as a low ball across was initially saved well by Grier
but it fell kindly for Archie Meekison who had the easiest of finishes into the corner of the net.

Despite the early set-back, the Colts settled themselves well and were soon back in the game.
Ewan MacPherson ghosted in behind the Spartans backline before a delicate finish into the far
corner past Matthew Baines.

However as the game yo-yoed between the two sides, Spartans got their third 25 minutes in as
Scott McCrory-Irving raced clear before confidently sliding the ball under Grier.
Once again though, James Orr's men pulled one back as MacPherson glanced home his second
of the game from a cross.

The drama continued into the second half, after a breathless first period.
Eight minutes after the break, McCrory-Irving got his second as he poked the ball into an empty
net after hesitation at the back from Cammy Foy.

In the typical fashion of this game, it looked as if Colts had got yet another goal back as Marty
Wright flicked a lofted ball into the net as he beat the keeper to it but somehow the linesman
ruled it offside, the video playback confirmed this was questionable to say the least.

Minutes later as Colts continued to pile on the pressure, the officials made their second baffling
decision. MacPherson was quite clearly wiped out from behind inside the box but after a moment of
hesitation, the referee opted to book the striker for diving instead of pointing to the spot.
Up the other end, Blair Atkinson rubbed salt into the wound as he found the roof of the net with
an emphatic finish after a quick counter attack for 2-5.

There was time for Gregor Woods to notch a brace as this time an excellent strike from just
outside the area gave Grier no chance as Spartans got their sixth of the evening.
Craig Murray's free-kick pretty much summed up the game for the hosts as the captain curled
one off the post before rebounding off the keeper but somehow going behind for only a corner.

After a much improved performance, especially going forward, the score line was harsh on the
Colts who will be left to rue some defensive errors and some questionable decisions by the referee.
