Tynecastle FC   2  v  3  Cumbernauld Colts

Colts advanced into the first round of the Scottish Cup after an enthralling victory away at Tynecastle.

James Orr's men handed their opponents their first home defeat in two years to set up a trip to the highlands to face Huntly in first round proper.

Lee Whitemore so nearly gave his side the lead straight from a corner as the Tynecastle keeper was forced to punch the ball off his own bar, with a debate whether it had crossed the line.

That didn't bother the Colts though and a minute later, they were in front. After two last time out against Spartans, Ewan MacPherson continued his scoring spree after Craig Murray lifted the ball over the top and the striker finished calmly past Leiper from the angle.

Murray was again involved as Colts soon made it 2-0. This time the midfielder lined up a free-kick and smashed home a dripping effort via the underside of the bar, a brilliant strike.

Despite this, the hosts found a way back into the game. A couple of slips at the back allowed Ryan Cameron to race through before being caught late by Jonathan Grier. The referee pointed to the spot as well as dishing out the yellow for Grier before Taylor Hendry duly netted for 1-2.

After the break, Colts restored their two goal cushion, after a magnificent first time volley from Fraser Team into the roof of the net from Murray's long ball, the midfielder getting his second assist to add to his goal.

Once again though, Tynecastle pulled one back. Just four minutes after conceding, they found a free-kick goal of their own, as Jack Beaumont stepped up, beat the wall and beat Grier with another excellent strike in this game.

The challenges continued to fly in throughout this hotly-contested cup tie but it was Colts who held onto the lead to prevail after a very entertaining 90 minutes of football.
