Match Preview: University of Stirling (A)

‘Colts return from another week’s break on Saturday, 6th December, as we make the trip to Forthbank Stadium to take on University of Stirling on Matchday 19 of the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League.

Last time out

The home side started strong and could have scored inside two minutes when Josh Jack pulled a long-range effort just wide.

Just six minutes later, Josh Jack would open the scoring with his 11th goal of the season, after Abraham Osemeke broke in behind the Bo’ness defence and cut the ball back to the penalty spot.

The visitors then enjoyed a short spell of possession, with Thomas Grant causing issues down the left, but the Colts remained dangerous.

But the Colts’ second arrived soon after in the 33rd minute, with Farquhar driving the ball across the box to find his right back, Adam Fernie, who chested it down and drilled a composed finish past Wallace and into the bottom-left corner from within the six-yard box.

Bo’ness hit back one minute later, after a poorly cleared corner dropped to left wing-back, Shaun Brown, who struck the descending ball, helped slightly by a deflection, past Harry Broun to bring the score to 2–1 in the 34th minute.

Farquhar restored the two-goal cushion in brilliant fashion, pressed tightly by Irving and Alasdair Davidson and with Wallace rushing out, he dinked a deft finish over the keeper from a tight angle to make it 3–1.

Previous meetings

There have been only six previous meetings between ‘Colts and University of Stirling, after which the head-to-head record lies in Stirling’s favour, with three wins and two draws, meaning ‘Colts have only picked up one victory.

Our last meeting came on 8th March this year, when ‘Colts picked up what could prove to be a valuable point in last season’s fight for survival in a 1-1 draw thanks to a Zak McKay goal.

Opposition focus

University of Stirling will be reasonably pleased with how their season is currently going, given the poor start they had gone through at the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign.

With 18 played, they sit twelfth in the table with six wins, four draws and eight losses, now a reasonably comfortable ten points above the relegation zone. They will be looking to add to that safety net on Saturday, and it will be our job to prevent that.

Squad news

A handful of squad updates to bring you after this week’s absence from action.

Goalkeeper Scott Cowie picked up an ankle knock in training this week, although it is uncertain how long he will be out for as of now. Connor Falls has also taken an injury over the break and is expected to be out for a little while.

Lyle Hunter is also expected to return this weekend after recovering from a recent illness. However, it is now Ji Stevenson who will face a late fitness test due to illness.

Mark McCaffery has recently returned to action with the Under-20s and will be looking to make a return to the senior squad in the near future.

Danny Hatfield and Callum Wilson are still a doubt, although both are seeing positive progress in their recovery.

See you there!

After yet another long week with no ‘Colts action, we hope you’re heading along to Stirling to welcome the team back properly!
