Match Preview: Berwick Rangers (A)

A mid-week trip to the Borders, we head south to take on Berwick Rangers on Wednesday, 1st April, with a 7:45pm kick-off.

Last time out

‘Colts make it five unbeaten after a 3-3 draw with Broxburn Athletic at Albyn Park on Saturday afternoon, adding another point to our tally.

It would be Broxburn who would appear to have the better start to the match, whilst ‘Colts would come into the game a lot more around the 25th minute.

We would take the opening goal as Jay Gillies would claim his first for ‘Colts through a corner in the 42nd minute, taking us into the break a goal up.

The second half had started, and we were hungry for more, which would soon come as another corner would lead to a Thomas Horn goal in the 52nd minute.

However, it wouldn’t be long until we were pinned back as a corner for Broxburn themselves would lead to a Matty McDonald goal in the 54th minute, making it 1-2.

Our two-goal advantage would quickly be restored in the 56th minute via an excellent Josh Farquhar volley, a hectic start to the second half.

Broxburn would get one back again in the 83rd minute after Gallagher Lennon cuts it back to Jamie Docherty for a fairly easy finish.

Broxburn would then go on to find the late equaliser in the 90th minute as Matty McDonald would get his second of the afternoon and earn Broxburn a share of the spoils.

Previous meetings

‘Colts just edge ahead in the head-to-head record with Berwick Rangers after picking up our third win earlier in the season, whilst Berwick have two wins and two draws.

That win from earlier in the season was a 3-2 victory at Broadwood, with ‘Colts scoring through Josh Farquhar, Josh Jack, and the now departed Billy Mortimer.

Opposition focus

Berwick Rangers are a side who seem to have improved as the season has gone on, now sitting in tenth position with twelve wins, five draws and twelve losses.

A win for the hosts on Wednesday would put Berwick only three points behind ‘Colts, whilst a defeat would see ‘Colts move within a point of Broxburn Athletic in sixth position.

Squad news

Unfortunately, the season is likely over for Callum Home and Adam Fernie after a broken hand and a dislocated shoulder, respectively.

In better news, Liam Allison and Lucas McCormick are nearing a return to the pitch, whilst Scott Walker is expected to resume full training in the near future.

See you there!

A long journey and late night, we know, but we hope the team can make it worth the effort for you if you choose to come down and back us!
