Match Preview: Lowland League Cup Final

‘Colts head to Newton Park on Saturday, 22nd March, ahead of a 3pm kick-off for our second of two consecutive meetings with Gala Fairydean Rovers.

Last time out

‘Colts come out on top on a tough afternoon in Galashiels as we defeat Gala Fairydean Rovers 3-2 at Netherdale thanks to Danny Hatfield’s heroics.

After making the 74-mile trip to Galashiels, we got underway on a lovely afternoon, and it wouldn’t be long before we would find the opener.

Carrick McEvoy would win the ball and take a shot from the edge of the box to give us the lead in the 7th minute, celebrating his first goal for ‘Colts.

Both teams would struggle to find their rhythm after the goal, but it would be Gala Fairydean to score next, winning a penalty just after the half-hour mark.

Jamie McMurdo would convert the penalty and level the game in the 33rd minute.

We would go into the break level, and the scoreline would remain even until we reached the 62nd minute, when Clark Bexfield would give Gala the lead.

Time ticked past, and just as it looked ‘Colts might be making the return trip with nothing to show for it, substitutes Adam Fernie and Thomas Horn linked up to level the game.

In the 85th minute, Adam Fernie supplied Thomas Horn with an excellent ball. ‘Colts were level and hungry for the winner.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Danny Hatfield’s press would pay off as he beat the keeper to the ball and snatched it for ‘Colts at the last second.

A good win for ‘Colts after a tough test as we shift our focus onto next Sunday’s Lowland League Cup final.
