Match report
Another trip out to Ayrshire, this time to the home of Auchinleck Talbot, came with a bittersweet finish as a strong defensive display ended with a late goal which saw Colts leave empty-handed.
The match kicked off at pace as both teams fought for early control at Beechwood. Talbot carved out the first real opening in the eighth minute, though the effort sailed over the bar, followed by another chance that drifted just wide five minutes later. It remained a balanced opening period, with play flowing from end to end as neither side could find a decisive edge.
As the half wore on, Auchinleck Talbot started to ramp up the pressure, but the Colts backline remained resolute with several vital interceptions assuring the scoreline remained even through periods of counter-attacking play.
A threatening Talbot move in the box came to nothing in the 15th minute before Colts produced a promising ball from a corner, only for the final strike to be saved by Talbot keeper, Ollie Ecrepont. The hosts continued to look dangerous, making several attempts, including an overhead kick as David Wilson was repeatedly called upon to maintain the deadlock.
The intensity persisted late into the half as David Wilson was called into action once more in the 28th minute, navigating a frantic period inside the box with another bout of clearances required to deny the hosts a match opener. The immediate threat subsided, though Wilson remained alert to produce further stops in the 32nd and 33rd minutes to deny Talbot the opener.
After a particularly fierce 45 minutes, both teams headed into the break goal-less.
The second half got off to an eventful start with a 50th minute foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick for Talbot. Ewan Thomson’s shot into the bottom corner ended up being no match for David Wilson, who produced an easy save to keep things level.
Colts immediately threatened on the counter, sparking a scramble in the box before the ball was eventually cleared.
Colts made their first substitution on the hour with Jude Freel coming on in place of Caiden McMillan, while Oliver McDonald was replaced in the 75th minute by Abraham Osemeke.
Through the later stages of the match, both teams continued to put on a strong show as Colts had an answer for each one of the hosts’ attempts while also providing one of their own.
Just as a draw appeared inevitable, it was Talbot’s Evan Galasso who managed to snatch the lead in injury time to break the 90-minute stalemate.
Despite a resolute defensive showing, there was little else to be done with the remaining time as the full-time whistle sounded, leaving Colts to face the journey home with nothing to show for a spirited performance.
David Wilson picked up his second Man of the Match award for Colts after a very impressive performance, featuring a great save from the penalty spot.
