Match report

Delightful Farquhar dink enough to seal the win for Cumbernauld Colts despite Bo’ness United pressure.

Josh Farquhar scored and assisted for the Colts tonight at Broadwood in their 3-1 victory over Bo’ness to take them up to 7th place in the league.

The home side started strong and could have scored inside two minutes when Josh Jack pulled a long-range effort just wide.

Just six minutes later, Jack would open the scoring with his 11th goal of the season, after Abraham Osemeke broke in behind the Bo’ness defence and cut the ball back to the penalty spot.

Jack, arriving from deep, stepped in to claim the ball and fired low past Matthew Wallace to make it 1–0.

The Colts thought they had doubled their lead in the 11th minute when a Scott Walker free kick led to Liam Allison volleying home at the back post, but the flag went up for offside.

The visitors then enjoyed a short spell of possession, with Thomas Grant causing issues down the left, but the Colts remained dangerous.

Jack curled wide on the counter after Aiden McLaughlin broke free, while moments later, Bo’ness responded with Kieran Mitchell crossing for Ryan Schiavone, who headed over the bar.

Osemeke continued tormenting the Bo’ness back line, drawing a yellow card from centre back Daniel Irving for a pull-back on 29 minutes, and from the resulting free kick, Patrick Moy headed just over.

But the Colts’ second arrived soon after in the 33rd minute, with Farquhar driving the ball across the box to find his right back, Adam Fernie, who chested it down and drilled a composed finish past Wallace and into the bottom-left corner from within the six-yard box.

Bo’ness hit back one minute later, after a poorly cleared corner dropped to left wing-back, Shaun Brown, who struck the descending ball, helped slightly by a deflection, past Harry Broun to bring the score to 2–1 in the 34th minute.

Bo’ness made two changes at the break, bringing on Roan Fitzpatrick and Jack Hodge for Freddie Rowe and Schiavone, and began the second half on the front foot.

Colts survived a series of threatening moves, including a looping effort from Fitzpatrick and a driven shot from Ryan Stevenson that was bravely blocked by the Colts captain, Cameron Dickson.

Despite Bo’ness’ pressure, the best chance fell to Colts striker Osemeke, who headed over from point-blank range after a perfect Farquhar cross.

Farquhar restored the two-goal cushion in brilliant fashion, pressed tightly by Irving and Alasdair Davidson and with Wallace rushing out, he dinked a deft finish over the keeper from a tight angle to make it 3–1.

As the match entered its final stages, Broun required treatment but was able to continue.

Trialist Stephen Donaghy and Ji Stevenson came on to replace Osemeke and Jack for the closing minutes, and the Colts nearly added a fourth late on when another substitute, Billy Mortimer, led a counterattack and squared for Farquhar, whose near-post effort struck the side netting.
