Match report

‘Colts respond to falling behind twice on Tuesday evening, as two late goals sparked the comeback against East Stirlingshire at Broadwood on Park’s Motor Group Lowland League Matchday 16.

It was a slow start to the match under the Broadwood lights, with both sides struggling to keep hold of the ball. As ‘Colts began to pile on the pressure, an East Stirlingshire long ball sparked the attack, which would lead to the opening goal in the 26th minute, giving the visitors the advantage.

‘Colts responded well to the goal, continuing to charge forward and put pressure on the East Stirlingshire defence. Finn McGuigan found himself in a good position to charge into the box with the ball, and just as it looked like he was able to take a good shot on goal, he was brought down, resulting in a penalty to ‘Colts. By no surprise, it was Josh Jack who prepared to take the opportunity to level the match, which he did with a calm strike into the keeper’s bottom left in the 33rd minute.

We went into the break level at 1-1, despite a strong East Stirlingshire response to the levelling goal.

Underway in the second half, and it quickly became apparent that both sides were eager to find the winning goal, with the game becoming more balanced between the two teams. However, nothing came for either side until the 80th minute when East Stirlingshire found themselves ahead late in the match, with not long left to play, leaving ‘Colts with a lot of work to do, and they would have to do it quickly.

No panic from ‘Colts, though, as we go up the other end and win a corner. Liam Allison gets up nicely to meet the ball from Josh Jack, and a strong header puts us level again with a rapid response in the 82nd minute.

With around ten minutes to play, both sides still looked eager for a winner. Thankfully, though, it would be ‘Colts as a strong team move finds multiple players in good positions within the box. It’s Adam Fernie who finds himself in the right position as the ball falls to him and he hits it with a clean strike from not far inside the box, putting us ahead with just stoppage time left to play!

‘Colts see it out and claim three points with a late victory.
