A disappointing result down by the border for ‘Colts this Saturday afternoon as Liam Allison’s late goal was not enough to overturn Gretna’s two-goal advantage on Matchday 17.

With the fairly long journey down to Gretna complete, we got underway at Raydale, debuting our new red third kit.

Unlike recent times, it was ‘Colts who got off to the better start in the match, attempting to set the pace and tone of the game from the start. For the first twenty or so minutes, the game belonged mostly to ‘Colts, despite a few counter-attacks from Gretna.

It was around the twenty-minute mark when Gretna began to force their way into the game with the side beginning to string together more passes and create better chances. This led to the opening goal shortly after as Gretna opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

After the opening goal, Gretna remained in the game and began to make it more difficult for ‘Colts, which seemed to be working. As we approached half-time, ‘Colts found it harder to create chances.

Due to this, we went into the break trailing by a goal. The first fifteen minutes of the second half were almost a carbon copy of the end of the first half, with Gretna making it difficult for ‘Colts to create chances again.

However, it was around the hour mark when ‘Colts began to pile the pressure back on to Gretna, creating a handful of good chances and challenging the keeper one or two times.

‘Colts couldn’t create a chance strong enough to find the leveller, which eventually allowed Gretna to go down the other end and double their advantage in the 77th minute, despite being the second-best team at the time.

Similar to Tuesday evening’s match, it was another quick response from ‘Colts, as Liam Allison pulled one back in the 80th minute, allowing ‘Colts back into the game.

Unfortunately, ‘Colts couldn’t add to Liam Allison’s goal despite a few good attempts and return home to Cumbernauld with another loss.
